A new Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters shows Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio and Democratic challenger Ted Strickland are tied at 42 percent, less than five months before the election. The survey of 971 voters was conducted from June 8 through 18, and has a margin of error of 3 points. The poll shows Portman has a 44 percent approval rating, and 33 percent of voters have no opinion of his job performance. 42 percent of voters view Strickland favorably, while 38 percent view him negatively. Poll results show Strickland has higher name recognition than Portman. 58 percent of voters in the poll approve of the job Republican Governor John Kasich is doing in office.
