Civil Rights Panel Says CDP Too Slow Investigating White Officer's Racial Comments

The Ohio Civil Rights Commission has charged the Columbus Division of Police with moving too slowly in its probe of alleged racism by a white officer. An internal investigation and a commission probe determined Sergeant Eric Moore called black officers racially charged names, and once talking of killing African-American officers. The threat was made as the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was investigating Moore for allegedly ordering an illegal kit to convert a semi-automatic into an automatic weapon. Moore was suspended in October and received a written reprimand in May. A police division spokesperson declined comment on the commission's allegations. The division is moving to fire Moore for improperly claiming nearly 10 thousand dollar in overtime pay and other alleged violations.
