Justice Department Sides With Plaintiffs In Lawsuit Over Voter Rolls

The Justice Department is telling the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in an amicus brief that Ohio's process for maintaining its voter rolls is illegally removing people from them. A federal judge last month rejected a lawsuit filed by voting rights groups against Republican Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, claiming he drops registered voters from the rolls based on their failure to vote. The department wants the court to reverse the decision, saying federal law requires a voter's removal when he or she becomes ineligible because of a change of residence, after the state confirms the move.
