The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts bumper crops of soybeans and corn this year. The department says Ohio's corn and soybean crops will be better than last year, when heavy rains flooded many fields. But other farm-belt states will see higher yields. Department meterologist Brad Rippey says a hot, dry July and early August did not harm the crops, and rainy conditions in the last two weeks will help.
The harvests could mean lower corn, soybean and meat prices. Beef, pork and poultry producers feed their livestock corn and soybeans.
