Columbus city officials say they're looking for a developer to purchase the 140-year-old North Market and an adjacent parking lot. The city owns the building and appropriates tax dollars for its upkeep. The city wants the developer to expand and renovate the Arena District landmark. The city says the market has potential for growth, since it is smaller and lesser known than facilities in other urban areas. Expansion could include more space for shopping and events. City development officials say they do not have an idea of how the project would be completed, and won't sell if the developer presents a plant that won't make sense for the area. Many market vendors say they are pleased by the prospect of more space and updated amenities. They commented after city officials spoke with them about the plan earlier this week.
