AG Won't Prosecute Allegations Of Racism Against Columbus Cop

Ohio Public Radio

The Ohio Attorney General's office is declining to prosecute civil rights allegations against the Columbus Division of Police in the wake of two cases of alleged racism by a white officer. A spokesperson for AG Mike DeWine says the office considers Police Chief Kim Jacobs to be a defacto employee because she serves on the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. The office intends will hire an outside attorney to represent the Ohio Civil Rights Commission in its case accusing the division of "unlawful discriminatory practices." The commission says officials failed to adequately respond to complaints about a now-fired white police sergeant's use of racial slurs and threat to kill two black officers. The city has declined comment.
