Republican Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has certified a proposed constitutional amendment to impose term limits on Ohio Supreme Court justices and to remove special legal protections for state lawmakers and their staffs. DeWine says the petition submitted by backers had enough valid signatures and presented a "fair and truthful" summary of the issue. The proposal would preclude justices who had served nine or more consecutive years from being re-elected or appointed. It would also ensure all state laws apply equally to members and employees of the General Assembly. The proposal now heads to the Ohio Ballot Board.
