Critics say chemical giant DuPont has spent too little on testing Ohio and West Virginia residents for C8 contamination while paying millions to an attorney overseeing the testing program.
Court filings show DuPont spent 860 thousand dollars on testing for contamination from the chemical used to make Teflon, and the attorney was paid nearly 15 million dollars. Cincinnati attorney Robert Billot filed a class-action lawsuit alleging the company released C8 from its Washington Works plant into the Ohio River. The company settled in 2004 and agreed to pay 70 thousand residents to have their blood tested. 2 thousand people have been tested. Bilott says the company has more than enough funds to cover the program's cost.
