August Figures Paint Mixed Existing Home Sales Picture
Sales of existing homes fell in August on the national level, but rose on the state and local levels. Jim Letizia reports.
The National Association of Realtors says U.S. home sales fell 1.7 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.35 million, due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey and a declining number of properties on the market. The Ohio Association of Realtors says existing home sales rose 2.7 percent from July to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of nearly 151 thousand. The Columbus Realtors trade association says more than 32 hundred homes were sold in its multi-county region in August, up 5.6 percent from July. The national median sale price fell by 5 thousand last month to more than 253 thousand dollars. The statewide average sale price of nearly 179 thousand dollars is down 2 thousand from July. The median sale price of a central Ohio home was 185 thousand dollars last month, down nearly 10 thousand from July.
