Franklin County Commissioners Make Temporary Sales Tax Permanent

commissioners.franklincountyohio.gov

Franklin County Commissionersyesterday voted to make the temporary county sales tax permanent. The tax was enacted in 2013 to build a county jail and fund other programs. It was scheduled to expire next year.  But county Administrator Ken Wilson recently recommended making the tax permanent to replace 21 million dollars in state funding cuts and prevent service cuts. The tax rate of 7.5 percent is the second-highest of any Ohio county. Most economists say sales taxes are regressive, because they force the poor and low-income residents pay a higher portion of their incomes for goods and services.
