The City of Columbus has agreed to pay a landscaping firm more than 200 thousand dollars to install more than 600 new street trees in some neighborhoods.
Some of the trees will replace those destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle, according to city council member Elizabeth Brown.
Last year, the city spent 140 thousand dollars to plant more than 800 street trees. The city so far has planted a little over ten percent of the 300 thousand trees then-Mayor Michael Coleman announced in 2015 would be planted by the year 2020. Scientific researchers urge the program be completed as a way to alleviate the impact of climate change.
