Former Mental Health Counselor Pleads Guilty In Child Abuse Case

Franklin County Sheriff's Office

A former local mental health worker accused of sex crimes has pleaded guilty to two of nine charges.

Sentencing is scheduled August 1st for Matthew Gatton under a plea bargain. His five-year substitute early childhood teaching license was revoked earlier this year. Prosecutors say an investigation showed Gatton allowed students to sit in his lap, held a student close to him, allowed a student to put his head in his lap, and had inappropriate conversations regarding private parts with a student. Authorities also say Gatton talked to students about laws that banned sex toys and allowed a student to sit in his lap while he was teaching at the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.
