Former Cuyahoga County Jail Inmate Files Civil Rights Lawsuit

cleveland.com

A former Cuyahoga County jail inmate has filed a lawsuit claiming she was was pepper-sprayed and punched while restrained.

Chantelle Glass says her civil rights were violated.  Glass says she repeatedly asked to make a phone call after she was arrested last year on a misdemeanor traffic warrant, which angered the guards.  Video shows guard Robert Marsh hit Glass in the face while guard Idris-Farid Clark sprayed her with mace.  Both were criminally charged.  Several inmates have died at the jail since 2018, and the U.S. Marshals Service has called conditions inhumane.  Glass is one of several current or former inmates who have filed suit over jail conditions and their treatment in the lockup.
