New County Procedure Notifies Foreclosed Property Owners Of Leftover Money

The Franklin County Clerk of Courts office has announced a new process to get a legal property owner any excess money from a foreclosure.

The process involves the office notifying a former owner about leftover money following the sale of a foreclosed home and paying the back taxes. Spokesperson Sharlene Chance:

Chance says owners may now file a motion to obtain the funds and request a hearing. After 14 days with no objections, the clerk’s office will issue a court-approved check. Some owners lost thousands of dollars because the county failed to notify them of leftover money. She says the office has reported about 8 million in leftover foreclosure funds since the year 2000.
