Committee Formed To Facilitate Inclusive Pandemic Recovery In Central Ohio
Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther today announced the formation of a Recovery and Resiliency Advisory Committee to suggest how the city, public sector, non-profit and private sector partners can support an inclusive economic recovery strategy. YWCA President and CEO Christie Angel will chair the committee.
"This has given us the opportunity to really dig deep and look at those systemic things that have been really holding all of us back and also look at some of the industries and the sectors that have suffered greatly during this COVID-19 pandemic," Angel said. "But at the end of the day, all of these leaders will be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work. This is probably an 18-month or so process. I'm excited to be talking about something other than COVID-19 response. I'm ready to talk about, and I think our community is ready to talk about COVID-19 recovery."
The pandemic has disproportionately affected women and people of color. Initially, the committee will have briefings to assess the pandemic’s effect on the economy, local businesses, and human service providers. Working groups will then be formed to identify and develop recommendations and solutions to report back to the full committee. There are 24 members on the committee so far. More are expected to be added in the next few days.
