Columbus encourages residents to test for COVID-19 before gathering for the holiday

Columbus Public Health will distribute free COVID-19 home test kits November 23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Celeste Center to encourage people to test before gathering on Thanksgiving to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.“The safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to gather with family and friends who are fully vaccinated,” Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts said. “Testing before you gather adds another layer of protection, especially for those who are at greater risk of serious illness and those too young to get vaccinated.”

Franklin County residents can receive up to a dozen COVID-19 home test kits at the drive-thru event, while supplies last. Health officials encouraged residents to test themselves and guests the day of gathering or traveling to someone else’s house. Anyone who tests positive should stay home and follow guidance on isolating and notifying close contacts.

Free COVID-19 home test kits are also available at Columbus-area libraries and recreation centers.
