Ohio Band Using Internet To Raise Money For New Album

indiegogo.com

The Ohio Players, the funk act from Dayton that sold millions of records in the 1970s, is turning to crowdfunding to pay for a new album. The band is working on a full-length recording that would be its first in 30 years. It turned to a crowdfunding website last month to help pay for the new release, called "Reset," but is still far short of the 150 thousand dollar goal. Drummer James "Diamond" Williams says the band has got about five songs already, most of them nearly done. He says the band that had huge '70s hits with "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" still has a lot of music to make, but the industry has changed so much that it's hard to get a record deal.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
