Police Say Smoke Shop Employee Shot Man After Altercation

Police say an employee at a smoke shop in Ohio fatally shot a man who witnesses said was starting fights with customers and workers in the store.

Columbus police say they were called to the Outlet Smoke Shop Plus around 1 a.m. Tuesday for a reported shooting and found 24-year-old Oscar Louis Morgan Jr. shot. A news release said the Columbus man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The release said witnesses told police Morgan appeared intoxicated when he tried to fight with patrons and store workers. Police said witness accounts suggest Morgan escalated the physical confrontations until one of the employees felt the need to fire a weapon at Morgan.

Authorities say detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the store as the investigation continues. No charges had been filed.
