Ramp Signs Remind People Not To Panhandle

The City of Columbus has begun erecting signs at freeway ramps reminding people it's illegal to panhandle at exits. Columbus Police Lieutenant Jack Harris says vehicles slow down and delay the flow of traffic when they give panhandlers money.  Police requested the city install them to help prevent crashes and because panhandlers living under an Interstate 670 bridge have caused trash to pile up. The penalties increase as panhandlers receive more citations and they could ultimately wind up in jail time.
