The Hyundai Mercury Prize 2019 Review

The Hyundai Mercury Prize 2019 Review

The Hyundai Mercury Prize, formerly the Mercury Music Prize serves to raise awareness towards the best music that the UK has to offer. It’s an annual award ceremony that was started in 1992 by the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers as an alternative to the BRIT awards.  The Mercury Prize operates on a shortlist of 12 albums that are hand-picked by an independent panel of judges, and is known to have an immense effect on the artists that walk away with the prestigious prize. Famously, both the xx an Elbow saw a monumental increase in sales after their debut album xx won in 2010.

WCBE summer intern, and Mount Vernon Nazarene University student, Mark Wesley, gives readers insight about the various bands nominated for this year's prize.
