State Running Out Of Road Construction Money

Records show the state is running out of money for major new road-construction projects.

State officials say the shortfall results from a failure since 2005 to raise the 28-cent gas tax, as well as the expiration of nearly 1.5 billion dollars in turnpike bond funding. Governor Mike DeWine says he plans to introduce a transportation budget in February after meeting with a panel for recommendations. He says he'll work with lawmaker to address road construction and repair contracts, which have been reduced by nearly 1 billion dollars since 2014.
