Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition - "Tablecloth Chaos"

Elizabeth Miller

It’s a famous stunt: a magician pulls a tablecloth from under a table full of dishes without disturbing a single one. Would you believe physics is at work in this trick?

With “Tablecloth Chaos”, one of several interactive activities at COSI's Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition, you can put your skills to the test. Using Newton's first law of physics, one can find the best and easiest way to pull the tablecloth without disturbing anything. There may be several ways to pull the tablecloth successfully, just make sure you don't mess up the dishes!

This is a part of several modules that will focus on specific aspects of the Mythbusters exhibit, including insight into the science behind several of the experiments.

If you'd like to be a part of the "Tablecloth Chaos", head on over to COSI in downtown Columbus for Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition, open through Labor Day, and stay tuned to www.wcbe.org to learn more about The Explosive Exhibition.
