Multiple States Dealing With Toxic Algae Blooms

Ohio is one of at least 21 states that had problems with toxic algae blooms in waterways over the summer. A report by the National Wildlife Federation calls for governments to better track the blooms and stop their spread. The report says state or federal officials posted algae warnings 147 times this summer. The report says blooms were found this summer in Lake Erie, Grand Lake St. Marys, Buckeye Lake, and the lake at East Fork State Park in Ohio. The blooms feed on phosphorus from sewage and farm fertilizer runoff.
