Bill Targets Juvenile Prescription Drug Abuse

The Ohio House has approved a bipartisan measure aimed at preventing drug abuse by youth. It requires a guardian's consent before a minor is prescribed a controlled substance. Co-sponsoring Republican state representative Stephanie Kunze says the issue came to her attention when she learned about a girl who was prescribed and later abused addictive painkillers without parental consent. Prescribers who ignore the consent requirements could face license suspensions under the bill that now goes to the Ohio Senate.
