New Rules Force Thousands Off Of Food Stamps

More than 10 thousand low-income Ohioans lost their food stamp benefits this month as the state began enforcing work requirements that were waived in recent years. Ohio Department of Job and Family Services officials say 140 thousand adults without dependent children may now get food stamps if they spend at least 20 hours a week working, attending school or job training classes. Thousands more are expected to lose the benefits soon because they have not yet gone through an assessment of whether the work rules apply to them.
