2 CCS Principals File Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

Two principals who are being fired for their alleged roles in the Columbus City Schools data-rigging scandal are suing the district and several officials. Former Linden-McKinley principal Tiffany Chavers and former Marion-Franklin principal Pamela Diggs are asking for monetary damages and reinstatement. Named in the suit are former Superintendent Gene Harris, her deputy, former district data chief Steve Tankovich and others. The district says they altered student-attendance data and changed student grades from failing to passing. Diggs says district higher-ups told them to do so.

The school board on Tuesday voted to begin the process of firing Diggs and Chavers, and voted to accept the resignation of Mifflin High School principal Jonathan Stevens. More than a dozen district employees have been fired or have voluntarily left their jobs in the wake of the scandal. District officials say they have not seen the lawsuit and cannot comment.
