The Ohio Supreme Court has put a Cleveland traffic camera case on hold while the justices decide a motorist's challenge to Toledo's camera system. A state appellate court had ruled Cleveland's system bypassed the local judiciary, but the motorist lacked legal standing to recover his speeding fine. Both sides appealed. The appeal by Toledo and its camera vendor is of an appellate court's ruling for a driver who sued over a 2009 camera-generated ticket. The motorist's attorneys say the camera system usurps judicial authority and violates due process. Toledo says the systems are allowed under Ohio's home rule law.
