O'Brien Examining GOP Ohio Senate Staffer Comp Time Case

WCBE files

Authorities are investigating a directive by Republican Ohio Senate president Keith Faber allowing two top aides to create dozens of records requesting leave or comp time for political consulting. Faber says he instructed Chief of Staff Jason Mauk and Communications Director John McClelland to make sure their time sheets were up-to-date. Faber says the resignations of aides to Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor over timesheet irregularities prompted his request. That coincided with a pending records request by The Dayton Daily News. Before releasing the documents, Mauk and McClelland generated 62 new comp time and leave requests. Republican Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien says he's discussing with the appropriate authorities whether that violated a prohibition against altering state records.
