OSU Coach Applauds Plans To Help Parents Travel To Final Match

The College Football Playoff says it will help pay for the parents and guardians of Ohio State and Oregon players to travel to Monday's national championship game in suburban Dallas.

The NCAA granted a waiver to the College Football Playoff to provide a reimbursement of up to $1,250 per parent or guardian that will cover hotel accommodations, travel and meals. Buckeye coach Urban Meyer criticized the lack of funds available for families to attend the extra games the day after learning his team would compete in at least one of them. After hearing about the change, Meyer gave credit to OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith for also advocating for more funds for parents.

"All due respect to all the other ADs, for him to step out on the line like that, that's good.  I'd like to see the commissioners jump on the deck too, and say this should happen....  So, families get to watch their son play in the first ever national championship; providing hardship... so they don't have to take loans...or worse than that: they're gonna take it from someone that you're not supposed to take money from.  And then we'll miss a bowl game.  That's outstanding news."

The NCAA also announced it will provide a similar reimbursement to the families of athletes who compete in the men's and women's basketball Final Fours.
