Franklin Township Cutting Police Force, Perry Township Asking Voters For Police Money

Franklin Township trustees have voted to lay off four of the township's eight police officers on February 6. Trustees cite budgetary problems. The township laid off five firefighters in November after voters rejected a fire levy. It's not clear whether the township will enter into a contract with the Franklin County Sheriff's office to provide law enforcement services.  Meanwhile, Perry Township trustees say they will place a 3.5 mil levy on the May ballot to fund police operations. The levy would cost the owner of a 100 thousand dollar home 123 dollars more in property taxes. The levy would generate 540 thousand dollars to help cover growing police operational costs.
