Kids From 255 Ohio Schools Can Seek Private-School Vouchers

The Ohio Department of Education says students from 255 facilities in 31 districts will be eligible for the next round of state-funded scholarships that help youth from consistently underperforming public schools attend private schools.

The department says the eligibility list of poorly performing schools includes 49 that weren't eligible last year and two that are part of the EdChoice Scholarship Program for the first time. The state says up to 60,000 scholarships may be available. They are worth up to $5,000 for high school students or $4,250 for those in kindergarten through eighth grade. The application period starts Feb. 1.
