Pepper Spray Use On Ohio State Fans Part Of Investigation

cleveland.com

A Columbus police spokesperson says an internal investigation continues into the use of tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds following Ohio State's football championship victory.

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs called for the review last week in an email sent to police and some city officials. The Associated Press obtained the email through a public records request. Police estimated that about 5,000 people converged onto a nearby campus street last week to celebrate the school's 42-20 win over Oregon. Jacobs has said revelers ignored repeated requests to clear the streets and emergency personnel couldn't get through to respond to fires. Based on photos and video, Jacobs wants an investigation into the use of spray on people on sidewalks obeying the law.
