Pride Parade To Feature Lead Plaintiff In Same-Sex Marriage Case

washingtonpost.com

Final preparations are underway for the annual Columbus Pride Festival.  Thousands of people are expected to pack Goodale Park today to kick off the festival.  Tomorrow's Pride Parade will be headlined by Grand Marshal Jim Obergefell of Cincinnati, the lead plaintiff in the same-sex marriage case under consideration in the U.S. Supreme Court.  Obergefell says he will talk about his late husband, who died of ALS in July 2013, three months after the couple got married in Maryland. He is one of several plaintiffs suing the state of Ohio to have his name remain on his late husband’s death certificate as spouse. Ohio is one of 12 states that ban same-sex marriage and refuse to recognize unions performed in other states.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
