DNA Testing Leads To Sentencing Of Local Rapist

Columbus Division of Police

A Columbus man will serve 22 years in prison for committing two rapes in 1995. 53-year-old Dennis White was sentenced this week for raping two women who accepted rides from him. White was arrested in April of last year thanks to newly processed evidence from a backlog of rape kits.  White claims he had consensual sex with the women in exchange for drugs. The state says it has tested more than 8 thousand previously unprocessed rape kits for possible DNA matches since 2011. A new law requires law enforcement agencies to submit any remaining untested kits to a crime lab within a year.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
