Report: Ohio Prison Homicide Rate Below National Average

A report on Ohio prison homicides in the past 15 years says most killers already were serving time for violent crimes. The report also says most homicides happened in higher security facilities and involved weapons less than half the time. The report by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee shows most homicides were committed by offenders serving longer sentences. The report says 26 inmates were killed in Ohio prisons from 2000 through 2014. All were men and the majority were white. Perpetrators were equally likely to be black or white. The report says Ohio's prison homicide rate is lower than the national average.
