Wayne County Sheriff's Facebook Post Regarding Slain Officer Sparks Controversy

Facebook

Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for the Danville police officer shot and killed earlier this week. Calling hours for Officer Thomas Cottrell will be held Friday at a Newark funeral home, with the funeral Saturday at the nearby OSU branch campus. Dozens of people on social media are upset at the Wayne County Sheriff's Office after an official posted a picture of an electric chair following the killing.  Captain Douglas Hunter posted the picture on the department's Facebook page.  The photo included a caption reading "time to bring back consequences."

Cottrell was killed on Martin Luther King Junior Day. Some of the social media critics say Hunter should have waited to post the photo until after the holiday, while others say the photo is in poor taste. Hunter says he will not apologize and will not remove the post.
