Columbus Castings Calls Worker Layoffs Temporary

A Columbus company that makes parts for rail cars has laid off 150 workers, citing lower than expected customer demand. Columbus Castings says its goal is to recall the workers within the next three months. In September of 2014, the company announced plans to add 500 jobs by spending 16-million dollars over three years to expand its Parsons Avenue factory in anticipation of increased demand. The company got state and local tax breaks for those plans, which included benchmarks for job creation. Columbus Castings says those plans have not changed.
