Father Sentenced For Running Over And Killing His Son

An undocumented immigrant who pleaded guilty to charges of accidentally running over and killing his son in Union County has been sentenced to six months in jail. 32-year-old Natividad de Jesus Hernandez will also serve five years' probation. Prosecutors say Hernandez ran over his 4-year-old son in December of 2013 when the boy fell out of his van while the man was fleeing a construction site after attempting to steal scrap metal. Hernandez is from El Salvador. The government in 2014 dropped federal charges of failing to apply for permanent residence and using fake identification.
