Report: 17 Percent Of Ohioans Are Food Insecure

A new report illustrates the continued struggles of many Ohioans in obtaining adequate, nutritious food. The report called "Map the Meal Gap," prepared by the anti-hunger group Feeding America, shows 17 percent of Ohioans are food insecure, a figure essentially unchanged from 2013. Nationally, 14 percent of the population is classified as food insecure. Joree Novotny with the Ohio Association of Foodbanks says low-income Ohioans have a gap of 15 dollars a person each week in their food budgets.

The Ohio Association of Community Action Agenices also released a report this week showing overall poverty in Columbus and the state has increased in recent years.
