Air Passenger And Cargo Traffic Up In Central Ohio

Columbus Regional Airport Authority officials say passenger traffic at the John Glenn Airport increased last month. Jim Letizia reports.

12.2 percent more people used the facility in September as compared with the same month a year ago. Officials credit more flight offerings and lower airfares. Passenger traffic for the year is up 8.6 percent from this point in 2015. Officials say cargo shipments at Rickenbacker Airport rose by 17.5 percent in September as compared with the same month a year ago, due to increased volume by shippers. Meanwhile, the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Stastistics says the average airfares at Glenn and Rickenbacker are 14 dollars higher than the national average of 352 dollars. Local and national prices fell from an average of 409 dollars in the second quarter of 2015.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
