Local Crypto Cases Nearing One Thousand

Columbus Public Health officials say the number of people who have contracted cryptosporidiosis this year is 966. The outbreak that began this summer in Columbus and Franklin and Delaware Counties has slowed but cases are still being reported. Iti's Ohio's largest-ever crypto outbreak. 50 people have been hospitalized, with no deaths reported. Cryptosporidiosis is a microscopic parasite spread through feces and human contact. Swimming pools and public water parks are two places where people come in contact with the virus. Officials say people diagnosed with crypto should stay home from work or school, frequently wash their hands with soap and water and clean home surfaces with hydrogen peroxide.
