Study Shows Many Ohio Water Systems Located Near Fracking Wells

A new study shows public water systems serving 61 thousand Ohioans are located within one mile of fracking wells or fracking waste disposal wells.

The study was conducted by the environmental coaltion called "FrackTracker.org." Spokesperson Ted Auch says the study attempts to show how Ohio's water systems and the public are endangered by fracking.

A recent industry study showed fracking activity in Ohio rose by nearly 500 percent since 2013, and Auch says industry demand for water is rising by 16 percent each year.

Fracking activity is expected to accelerate with the Trump administration's support for increased oil and gas production.
