No Grand Jury Charges In Fatal Police Shooting Of Henry Green

A Franklin County grand jury has declined to indict two Columbus police officers who fatally shot a man last year they say opened fire on them.

Prosecutor Ron O'Brien announced the decision today in the June shooting death of Henry Green. Columbus police say the 23-year-old ignored commands to drop his gun. Green's family and a friend walking with him at the time say the officers failed to identify themselves when they began yelling at Green. The officers were part of the city's summer safety program meant to reduce violence, take illegal guns of the streets and build trust between residents and police. Green's family has called for more transparency and held a number of rallies and protests, including one at the police academy during Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther's State of the City address. In a statement, Ginther says the grand jury proceedings should be unsealed and the investigation results should be made public as soon as possible.
