Former Columbus City Council member Michelle Mills has been placed on leave from her job as head of St. Stephen's Community House while authorities investigate organizational spending. The non-profit group says some expenditures lack documentation, so it has hired an accounting firm to examine spending records and procedures. The organization also says it is in negotiations with Mills for her to leave her job permanently. Mills, a Democrat, resigned from council in August of 2015 amid alleged ethics violations. Last February she pleaded guilty to not disclosing a trip she took with other council members to see the Big Ten football championship game in 2014 that was funded by convicted lobbyist and Mayor Andy Ginther's personal friend, John Raphael.
