Akron City Schools Superintendent David James has withdrawn from consideration for the top spot in Columbus City Schools, leaving interim superintendent John Stanford as the only candidate for the position.
In a letter posted Wednesday on his district's website, James said support from the Akron community made him reconsider his decision to leave. The announcement came as a surprise to the Columbus school board, who took the matter up in a closed door executive session Wednesday night, following a special meeting to discuss proposed budget cuts.
