Portman Not Happy About Additional Kavanaugh Hearings

Associated Press

Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio says he supports but is not happy about holding additional Judicary Committee hearings next week on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Questions have surfaced after a woman came forward this week claiming Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school. Christine Blasey Ford says she told Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein about it over the summer, but Feinstein never shared the information to protect Ford's identity. Portman told reporters in a conference call there were earlier opportunities to raise the issue.

Committee chair Chuck Grassley has rejected Ford's request to delay the hearing so the FBI may investigate her claim. Her attorneys say she has been the target harassment and death threats since coming forward.
