The Buckeye Lake police chief says all speeding tickets issued since 2013 are unlawful.
Vicki Wardlow tells the village council the department failed to renew its FCC license five years ago, making the speeds registered on any radar guns invalid. The license is necessary to calibrate the village's radar devices. Wardlow says the village is now in the process of renewing its license. It's not clear how many speeding citations have been written since 2013 or whether motorists ticketed since then have any recourse. Wardlow took over in July for James Hanzey, who was fired by village officials on the grounds of insubordination and failure to properly fulfill his duties.
