Lawsuit Filed Over Voting For Recently Jailed

A class action lawsuit has been filed alleging the state is denying people who were put in jail over the past few days the right to vote.  Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles reports.

Mike Brickner of All Voting Matters says people jailed over the last few days might not be able to afford to get released on bond.  So he says it's up to the state to make sure they can cast their ballots from their cells.

"These are elegible voters.  They are individuals who would otherwise be able to cast a ballot but Ohio law does not allow them to be able to get a ballot."

Brickner says there is an emergency policy in place that allows hospitalized people to have ballots brought to them, and believes the same should apply to those who are in jail but not convicted.  The suit was filed on behalf of inmates in Montgomery County who have not been able to cast ballots.
