Former Ohio House Candidate Sentenced For Releasing Text Exchanges With Opponent

Dayton Daily News

The Republican who lost her bid for an Ohio House seat last fall has pleaded guilty to revealing sexual text messages she exchanged with her opponent.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a felony extortion charge against 37-year-old Jocelyn Smith. She released partial text exchanges with Rick Perales, escalated allegations to include assault and demanded he resign or see further texts released. A magistrate suspended a 90-day jail sentence.
