Federal prosecutors in Columbus say four more people have been charged in a case of using false or stolen Social Security numbers for financial gain.

Jim Letizia reports.

Five people were charged with illegally using Social Security numbers to lease vehicles and apartments and obtain a 200 thousand dollar line of credit. The new defendants are 35-year-old Jamellia Kibby, 33-year-olds Kimberly Hudson and William Lawson, and 29-year-old Shaniqua Coleman - all of Columbus.  Kibby runs a credit counseling company called LIFE. She allegedly used an alias, a fake identity and a child’s Social Security number to help cover up her criminal record when she applied for an apartment, opened a bank account and leased an SUV. Lawson allegedly used four different Social Security numbers to purchase seven  vehicles. Hudson allegedly used a Social Security number to purchase three vehicles. Coleman allegedly used an alias, a false ID, and a child’s Social Security number to open a bank account, borrow money and finance an SUV. Prosecutors in March announced similar charges against  28-year-old Tommy Edwards Junior of Columbus, 28-year-old Kiara Mitchell of Groveport, 19-year-old Isaiah Burnley of Columbus, and 34-year-old Wayne Hamler and 36-year-old China Hester - both of Canal Winchester.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
